38 weeks pregnant. 70% effaced, 4 cm, baby is -1, 9 on bishop? wha?

6 days ago I was 3 cm and 60% effaced. Now I’m 38 weeks and 70%, 4 cm dilated, 9 on bishop scale, and the baby is -1. My due date is in 13 days. Is there any way I’ll make it til my due date? Midwife stripped membranes today too. I’ve had a few painful contractions, but far apart and nothing regular. Is there any way to predict how long this will take?

And what does the -1 mean? What number will that get to when I’m ready to push?

I’m wondering if there is a high possibility that I’ll go within 48 hrs. I’m also wondering what is the possibility that I’ll make for at least another week. Based on this info, is there any way to predict? Midwife seems to think I’ll go in the next 1-3 days?

Any thoughts?
Oh, I also lost mucus plug 4 days ago.

its all a guess You wont know til it happens Good that you have a "head start" WITH THE bishop scaor of 9 and you could beinduced if it was needed Mucous plug means just about nothing though its good to note that to your midwife just as an aside. Re read your information about when to go to hospital and continue living your life while waiting Dont get too anxious. Monitor the usual things you should be monitoring such as babies moving normally, your food and fluid intake is adequate -no sugar and excess salt etc. Remove and store safely any rings that might get stuck on finger due to fluid retention and IV fluids inthe hospital so they(rings) wont have to be cut off.Just be ready

Wow, and why do you want to wait 13 more days??? :o ) I am 32 weeks and I can’t wait to be done!!!
Anyhow it sounds like you will go anytime! Sooner vs. later! But I was 3-4 cm. with my twins for almost 2 weeks and never had a contraction, I went all the way to 38 weeks and had my scheduled c-section. Is this your first baby though? They seem to take much longer…
Hope all goes well and quickly for you!

yeah you are REALLY close, i don’t think it will be 3 days more like the next day. -1 is where your baby is stationed at. 0 is at the cervix and as the baby moves down the birth canal the numbers go up in positives. so your baby is right close to the cervix. if you go through the day tommorrow i would be shocked. take care and congratulations baby will be here very soon! :)

well, since you’re dilated to 4… you’re entering active labor (early labor is 1- 3 cm… I’m taking my childbirthing classes now!) So, I’m thinking you’re having this baby in the next 24 hours! Yay! Congrats! and good luck!

the 70% effaced means your cervix is 70% into the process of widening and literally becoming part of your lower uterus. the -1 means this: Over the extended process of your baby dropping down and getting into position for birth, it first must drop 5 levels (5, 4, 3, 2, 1,) and then goes through 5 more levels that are in the negative (-1, -2, -3, -4, -5) Obvioulsy, -5 being fully birthed. i cant remember which stage is appropriate to start pushing, all i know is that they want you to start pushing at 10 cm dilation. sounds to me like youre gonna be ready to go any day now, so be prepared and get excited! i wish i only had a few days to go lol

OK, the 1 means what stage your in. There are 4 different stages before your able to push. This may take only a few hours. It depends on your body. Yes, you may have your baby in the next few days. With my first baby I went to the hospital and had him about 10 hours later, my second child it took 24 hours until that one made it, than my last child I had here within 4 hours. My water popped @ 8:00pm and had her @ 12:32am. I hope that I am helpful to you. By the wat best of luck!

you are right on the verge of labor, its likely you will have the baby by this weekend. The -1 refers to how low the baby is in the pelvis. The pelvic opening is 0, anything above it is +1, +2 ect. a -1 means the baby has moved into the birth canal, which is not a surprise with all the other things you have going on

yeah u’ll be going in a day or so! -1 is the station the head is in your birth canal this will be -2. or -3…i think…when ur ready to push, but dont quote me but usually they go by the obvious 100% effaced and 10cm dialated.

I went early with mine too…ur not gonna make it to ur due date…no way. adn CONGRATULATIONS ur that effaced and dialated with no major pain…i was in labor for 34 hours b4 i had an emergency c section and it took me almost 10 hours to get to 4 cm! your lucky!!

Generally when your membranes have been stripped the average is 24-48 hours. Especially with the stripping of the mebranes, there is an increased chance of going into labor. The -1 is more than likely the station position of your baby. This means that she/he is 1cm above your midpelvis line. As you progress thru labor, the baby will go to 0, +1, +2 etc (my labor report from last time places the positive numbers as when the baby moved down the birth canal but your midwife/ob might have that backwards since it never made sense to me for numbers to go up as the head engages). Your baby right now is not "engaging" the cervix which is at 0 station (when the baby’s head has entered the boney part of the pelvis). Generally 0 or +1 +2 and the higer it goes is when they will allow you to push. With my first live birth I was +2 and it was discovered my son was breech (as they checked to see if pushing was ready). I would also say it’s possible but not likely you will make it longer than a day or two considreing you’re bishop scale score and other scores. The only thing that isn’t happening is the baby hasn’t completely moved to delivery position.
