4lbs 8oz at 33 weeks. Will I have a 'Big Baby'?
My midwife said I was on the smaller side of the scale but baby is increasing well. She predicted around 6lbs 10oz for birth. I have gestational diabetes, which occured during week 28. It seemed funny that this condition makes ‘bigger babies’ but mine is presumed smaller or ‘regular!’ I suppose not everyone is the same. However, do you think being 4lb 8oz at 33 weeks+4 days would be big/reg/small?
i’m being induced at 38/39 weeks.

I have type 1 diabetes and my son was monitored closely throughout my pregnancy.
At 30 weeks pregnant he was measuring exactly 4lbs. At 34 weeks he was measuring 7lbs 5oz. At 36 weeks he was measuring 8lbs 10oz and then at 38 weeks exactly, he was looking to weigh about 10lbs 5oz.
My doctors were very rude to me after that point and basically, what I felt was, they pushed me into a c-section even though I was so adamant on at least trying for a vaginal birth.
My son was born via c-section at 38 weeks 5 days pregnant weighing 9lbs 10oz. But, I was informed by my pediatrician, that a whole pound of his weight was attributed to fluid swelling due to my amniotic fluid levels. He was breastfeeding wonderfully in the hospital and peeing and pooping so his weight loss was NOT because he was not eating.
So we left the hospital with him weighing 8lbs 5oz (closer to his actual weight once his swelling went down) and I felt so saddened that I could have had him vaginally because he wasn’t near as big as they predicted him to be. Don’t let them scare you into believing you’ll have a big baby. The baby’s weight can be off 2 pounds in either direction and the U/S technician is just a "guess".
I’m assuming more on the smaller/average size. Good luck, you’re almost there!
ur baby will come out normal weight i know..6-8lbs are the normal
they gain about half a pound a week the last four wks so I think your midwife is about right… maybe closer to 7 pounds =)
good luck!!!
To me, that sounds to be on the average – big side. Your baby still has 7 weeks left to grow and they increase in weight much more rapidly in the last few weeks. I would estimate your baby would be around the 8lb mark at 40 weeks – but who really knows?
It’s really hard to say, I’ll tell you my experience though. My daughter was born at 33 weeks and she weighed 4 lbs. 13 ounces at birth. (which is basically the size your baby is now) By the time we reached the time she was actually supposed to be born she weighed about six and a half pounds and at her checkup the doctor said even if she had been in the womb until the due date she would have still weighed about that much. So long story short, if you’re anything like me your baby will probably be small like mine.
I wouldn’t even pay any attention to the ultrasound. They are always off. I was small too & at 36 weeks the ultrasound said my baby was 6lbs 7oz. We were figuring he’d be around 8lbs at least then. He was born at 39 weeks & 2 days weighing 6lbs 3oz. Less than what the ultrasound said he weighed at 36 weeks!
I am 34 weeks pregnant and found out I was GD at 29 weeks.
My baby weighs based on her last measurement about 5lbs. My doctor told me that I will probably have around a 6-7lbs baby.
My doctor told me that the women who had Big Babies and were GD were mostly likely overweight before they got pregnant and didn’t lead a healthy lifestyle which lead to big biggers (Ie poor diet)
But My GD came out of nowhere, I am 34 weeks and 158 lbs and pretty much have stayed there. I was healthy and active before I got pregnant. I don’t see my baby gaining too much in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Good Luck!
Prolly about regular, that’s just about normal size for that gestation
Hope this helps and good luck,
.
Hi, I also developed gestational diabetes at 28 weeks. They had told me my baby was around 7 pounds but he weighed in at 6 pounds.
