Anyone know of a good infant scale?

I am having to monitor my breastfed babies weight because we are having issues with weight gain. I have to go once a week right now for weight checks and it is a big pain to have to drive to the ped every week. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good infant scale (at a decent price) that I could use at home to weigh my baby.

I’d probably go with a digital kitchen scale. (Just peeked at Amazon, and they have dozens in the $25/range.) Very accurate and cheaper than a baby scale.

(However, I would caution against buying a scale. If you have your own, it’s easy to get caught up in constant weighing — and then fretting because baby gained less today than yesterday, or took ‘only’ 2 ounces at a feeding rather than 3 ounces. Babies DON’T gain weight steadily, and while it’s a bit of hassle to drive to the office, you do get a more accurate picture with weekly (or bi-weekly or monthly) weighings than daily ones.)

The pediatric scales are expensive. They run around $900.

One thing that you could do is to buy a sling scale. http://www.1cascade.com/category.aspx?categoryID=302 Our midwives had one for our baby that was born at home.
I know this sounds weird, but you could use a digital fish scale to to this too instead of an official sling baby scale. You could modify a baby blanket to be a sling and hook the blanket onto a scale such as this. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=netcon&id=0036369018215a&navCount=1&podId=0036369&parentId=&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=UJ&rid=0180101070502&parentType=&indexId=cat410006&hasJS=true

Sorry this isn’t what you asked but you answered my question about Pantley and I made a connection – you said you finally got your daughter to go two 5 hour stretches at night without eating where previously she had been eating every 2-3 hours. If you are trying to get her to add weight why did you try to partially night wean her?

I would not focus on the weighing as Pippin said and concentrate on getting as many feeding sessions into her as possible, even at night.

I also breastfeed my daughter. I wasn’t sure how much she was gaining since there is no way to measure how much she drinks, so my husband and I bought a scale. It is called Bebe Sounds- Digital Baby Scale from Bye Bye Baby. It costs $69.99 and the 4 batteries are included. You can use a non expired Bed Bath and Beyond coupon too! Babies R Us has some scales too! This is the one I bought: http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14985506&
Hope everything is okay with your baby!
