Baby gaining too much weight?

My son is 10 weeks old. He weighed 6 lbs 7.8 ounces at birth. At his two month check up last wed he weighed 12 .bs 1/2 ounce. His doc wasn’t concerned that he put on almost 6 pounds since birth, but today i weighed him on my friends baby scale and he weighed 13 lbs 4 ounces…that means he gained over a lb in a week. Doesn’t that seem like too much. My son was breastfeed until 2 weeks ago and now it on formula full time…

Baby is good. My doctor told me babies can never gain too much weight. It’s when then get ober the age of 2yrs that you need to start worrying. The more weight the better!

My son is breastfed. He was 6 lb 13 oz at birth. He was 9 lbs at his 2 week check up. He was 14 lbs!!! at 9 weeks. My doc said he is probably overreating but not ot cut back his nursing. How much formula is your son eating a day? He sounds normal to me, but if you are concerned, make sure you are not feeding him when all he really wants is to suck on something. Breastfed babies are notorious for this.

    What a little chub!! lol

Next checkup, ask the dr. to check your child’s BMI–body/mass indicator. If it’s off the scale, ask your pediatrician what he recommends doing so that you don’t end up with a sick obese baby.

No…… he’s doing great. Also…. babies scale tend to vary from scale to scale…… so he may have not but on a lb in a week. Even if he did…. it doesn’t matter.

Don’t worry…. you won’t be carrying around a 50 lbs baby in a few months. Babies put on a lot of weight in the first 4 months…. and then there weight begins to lvl off.
My son was off the charts at first…… gaining like crazy.

He weight Begin to slow down at around 5 or 6 months. He is know a happy healthy 22 lb. 8 month old baby.

Continue feed on demand….. and don’t stress… he is doing great.

If the doctor’s not concerned, chances are you shouldn’t be, either. My daughter was 13 lb. 13 oz. at her 2-month check-up, and my doctor said she’s fine since she’s also very tall, so her weight is proportional to her height. Also, breastfed babies tend to get big during the first six months, but then their weight tapers off once they get more mobile. In general, it’s rare for a breastfed baby to get overweight because breastmilk isn’t high in the bad kinds of fat. Hope this helps!

you baby’s weight is perfectly fine…my 2 1/2 year old son is 28 pounds and my 8 month old daughter is 20 pounds. don’t worry about it.
