No. The C major scale, or any other scale for that matter, Doesn’t have to start on C. The scale can start on any degree (or note) as long as you are playing the same notes (C,D,E,F,G,A,B), you are playing the C major scale……..

When you learn the scale in 7 positions like this, all you are doing is changing the string that you play the root on.
The 1st,2nd&7th positions in this vid explore the scale with the root on the 5th string, the 3rd&4th posutions use the root on the the 6th string. The 5th&6th position are based around the root on the 4th string. Hope this sheds some light! Cheers : )

can you give another example of a C major scale pattern? (C,D,E,F,G,A,B) – This one starts on the root C. Can you give an example of 1 that does not start on C or possible even tab it?

Sorry for the mess just trying to get a clear understanding.

This video contains 6 patterns that start on notes other than C. The 5th pattern in this vid is the only one that starts on the root of C.

In the vid I say ..’starting on the 4th’ as I’m starting on the 4th (F) note of the C major scale C1,D2,E3,F4.

    I don’t do tabs, sorry.

    Isnt that a minor scale?

@vampmiggy1 yes as A is the relative minor of C.
