Expecting a big baby….?

I had a scan yesterday at 25 wks as the midwife explained the baby is already weighing 2lbs 1oz and the measurements are above the average scale.

She estimated the baby to be 9-9.5lbs…… has anyone personally experiences giving birth naturally to a big baby? Are they acurate estimations?

I’m pretty scared now as I’m only 5ft 1 and pretty petite!!

Both of my babies have been pretty average for firsts and seconds 7lb 6oz for first and 8lb 5oz for second. But my sister in law had her second baby a month after my first and she delivered a 9lb 13oz boy. He got a little stuck and they needed to use the vacuum, but she had no stitches, or episiotomy at all. She recovered better and quicker than I did, and my baby was 2 and a half pounds lighter. She is only 5ft 5 and tiny, lucky to weigh in at 50kg. It really doesn’t matter how you are built of how big the baby is, most women can deliver quite fine with out intervention, but midwives and maternity Doctors have trained extensively and know what to do in any situation. I am sure you will be fine.

P.s. ultrasounds are wrong a lot of the time. Most of the time with the ultrasounds they can be right for weight, but quite often they can be off by 33%. So some babies are 33% heavier or lighter. And it is usually on the lighter side.

Wow, that is a big baby but you are not there yet so remember she is only estimating. I had a 6 lb 8 oz baby and that was difficult. It seems to me from what i can remember, it was the tiny ladies who had the easiest time having big babies. Good luck with the baby. Don’t worry!

my daughter is 4ft 10 and she had a big baby he was 9 and half pounds she couldn’t have a natural birth the baby wouldn’t engage he would go down and pop back out again but she did try and go for a natural birth and they did say because she was small there was no reason she couldn’t have a natural birth next time x

hey midwife cannot explain to you the weight of the baby. Dont stress out. They can predict and tell you whether you’re measuring according to your weeks, but cannot give you that "2lbs 1 oz stuff".

If they are predicting baby is on the bigger side, do NOT stress. I was told my baby was on the bigger side, and i used to worry sick over it.

When my son was born he was exactly 4 kilos 200 grams, (in australia considered pretty big) – i had no problems giving birth, no cutting, no stitches, no epidural or any other pain relief.

So if you stop stressing, and staying positive and healthy, all will be good.

concentrate on the positive – your baby will be bigger, which means easier to handle :) )))

my son and my first baby weighed in at 9lb 1 oz and i had a nice easy 4 hour labor and i thought that was big till my daughter came along weighing 10lb 2oz and that was also a nice 4 hour labor and i actually would rather have a larger baby as they tend to push themselves out the bigger they are and lets face it it cant hurt anymore than a small baby as everyone dilates to 10 cm! Good l;luck and congrats !x

hi I’m 5;4 and had a 10lb baby and as far as I’m concerned its all the same no matter what size Ive had 6 kids 1 Cesar the only problems with big baby’s is the shoulders getting stuck but they wont let you have a natural birth if they don’t think you can my friend had an 11lb 2oz baby with no stitches and my sister had an 10lb 6oz baby with no stitches you will be OK and your baby might slow down with the weight gain just no this its the baby’s head coming out that hurts the most not the baby’s weight and i no people that get told there having big baby’s and they end up being tiny good luck i hope this helps
