How painful are the contractions before you get to the hospital to have your meds if you prefer?

My doctor said not call until my contractions are 5 minutes apart for at least an hour. I always thought it was 10, but this is my 1st baby. I was just wondering on a scale 1-10 how painful will these contractions be to endure? I will be requesting an epidural when I arrive to hospital, my mom says it makes all the difference in the world. I am also worried because I haven’t had an BH for like three days now and I am 39 weeks.

I went to the hospital when they were 8 mins apart, cause im a worry wort, but I think 5 is correct..Contractions are painful, don’t let anyone tell you different, BUT I think you’ll do ok until you make it to the hospital, & they cant give you pain meds anyways tell your at a certain dilation period…not having a bh is okay!!! You’ll be feeling the need to soon, especially when your in labor, An epidural does make a huge difference, I had it with my 1st three, but my last one it was to late…and it does ease the pain, it doesn’t stop the pain, but you should be comfortable…I can’t rate it because all my labor pains & contractions were different with every child!! Good Luck!!!

My midwife told me to call when they are 5 minutes apart.

Nobody can tell you how painful YOU will find YOUR contractions. Every labour is different and pain is subjective – what you may call a 10 somebody else might rate as a 2, or vice versa.

How do you know you’re going to need an epidural? You might not find it very painful, or you might have a very fast labour.

I never had BH contractions with my first at all.

My contractions were all over the place.
    Like 15, 10, 8, 9, 5, 11, etc.
I went to the hospital when I couldn’t take the pain anymore.
Basically, when I doubled over and almost fell on the floor.
That’s when I said, enough is enough, and told my mom we were going to the hospital whether the doctors liked it or not.
The contractions are the worst part of the labor.
Pushing is nothing compared to the contractions.
    Trust me.

But if you get an epidural, then you can’t feel anything except a tiny bit of pressure, but as the baby gets closer and closer to coming it feels like you are going to drop the baby right then and there.

But the worst part will be the contractions.
