i have a friend who said the iv hurt the worst and she didnt get an epi. i say it a 5 because it is something you know is going to end and you get to see your baby after- if you have a vaginal, i swear the pain is gone as soon as baby is out- its pretty crazy:) you forget all about it- i was in labor 19 hours and pushed 1

I give it an 8. It was painful, but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Labor was bad for about 2 hrs before I got the epidural and then I didn’t feel anything. I ended up having a c-section because of complications and it didn’t hurt, but it was the weirdest feeling ever to feel someone cutting into you, but without pain. It was crazy.

I was induced (by choice) and I got 3 doses of stadol and then my epidural. Before the epidural the contractions pretty bad in my lower back. I would say probably an 8 but they were bearable. But after my epidural I was smooth sailing. I strongly recommend it!!!! When I started pushing it felt like I had to go to the bathroom but it was the baby. But no pain at all just a pressure down there. I wasn’t out of it or anything. I was tired though after just because it takes a lot out of you.

honestly its all diffrent for every body, when I was in labour with my son, I told the doctors on a scale from 1-10 I was about a 11 but the second you see that baby you forget how bad it really hurt. looking back at it, it wasnt that bad

Okay, to be honest. It hurts like a 7 when it starts gradually makes it way to a 10. Get an epidural..it will make its way back down to 3-5…then when that fades off a little bit..back up to a 5-10..but when you first hold that precious little bundle of joy in your arms…your pain is a 0! I’m serious. you will forget all about the pain! It’s worth it.

    9 i could imagine worse.

if it is a 10, why would anyone do it more than once.

source – had two babies. Yes, I did have an epidural, but was dialated to a ten before I got my epidural. Ps- and epidural is when they put medicine in your spinal column to help with the pain.

When the nurse asked me about an hour before delivery, I said, "9 3/4 where 10 is getting your head cut off with a chainsaw." That’s a quote. After the fact, I decided that it hurt far more than getting one’s head cut off with a chainsaw. ;)

I was induced and labor pains went from a 0 to a 10 in about 4 hours. I have never felt pain like that. During pregnancy, I was dreading the epidural needle. Once I felt the intense pains I was like bring it friggin on – the needle fear evaporated.

Every woman is different. I’ve had friends who just said it felt like a very uncomfortable pressure, and then there was me! My daughter just had a baby and they do wonderful things with epidurals now. When I had one, it deadened everything below the waist. My daughter said her’s just took the pain away in that particular area and she could move around and work more with the birth.

10 but its worth every minute of the pain

I honestly think it varies from woman to woman. If you’re prepared for labor and birth and don’t fight against your body, the pain is far less than it is if you’re scared and begging for pain med’s.

When I had my son, I’d rate the pain at about a 6 or 7 even with back labor. Seriously. Contractions were more like waves or surges than anything and I just made use a positive affirmations and visualizations.

The most painful part was either a doc putting his whole hand in me (wtf!?) to "help" or my son crowning. Birth was actually enjoyable for me, as crazy as it sounds, because I didn’t get to birth my daughter naturally and I was very much looking forward to an unmedicated VBAC with my son.

I’ve heard that if you are induced, it is much more painful because your body is influenced by artificial chemicals rather than taking its cues from your natural hormones. I don’t have experience with pitocin or other inducing drugs, but I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about them.

i had my sone 6 weeks ago. the part that hurts are the contractions…i would give that a 10. but if you get an epidural like i did i was in heaven and the pushing didn’t hurt….i would gice that part a 4.

  23. philitree on November 28th, 2010 | 8:22 am

    A 4.

Honestly, gallbladder issues and a kidney infection were much worse pain to me than having a baby.

  24. James and Rhys' Mommy on November 28th, 2010 | 8:22 am

I have had two very and I mean VERY diffrent labors. Both of them I went all natural. WIth my son James that was number one, I would say my IV hurt a million times worse than labor. I also tore and had a second degree tear, which means I tore up and down. I have skinny veins. With Rhys, number two, he was induced, so they gave me antibiotics by IV and that hurt more than anything! I just wanted them to cut my hand off it hurt so bad. but the labor was easy. I could have a baby everyday and it wouldn’t bother me. Trust me, just go in with an open mind… know that it could hurt or it may not. Like I said, I thought it was easy, and I can’t wait to have another one.

ok i have a 10 month old son.. was in labor for 22 1/2 hours with no epi..and i honestly would give labor about a 6…lil painful but it wasnt bad

  26. just a thought... on November 28th, 2010 | 8:22 am

8,but I had an epidural to get rid of most of the pain. Though my epidural did not really work well. I imagine it hurts more to get shot or stabbed or something like that. In my mind, 9 would be being stabbed and 10+ would be being tortured.
