Low weight baby?

My baby is 11 weeks and I’ve already consulted with a lactation specialist who says my baby’s latch is fine. I’m taking fenugreek. I tried breastfeeding exclusively, but my baby went from the 35th percentile at birth to the 10th percentile! I have a baby scale at home and he actually lost a couple of ounces one week, so I started supplementing with formula. I KNOW that will hurt my supply, but am I supposed to let him starve?! I won’t let him go hungry. I don’t know what else to do. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the answers so far. That’s the thing, he doesn’t act hungry, but he must be if he’s losing weight. I don’t know what to think.

Your concern is natural, however, unless your baby drops significantly, he should be fine. Even if he stays the same weight for a long time. As long as he isn’t acting hungry, or gets lethargic and non responsive at times, he should be just fine. If you are worried, go ahead a suppliment him once a day with formula if you want, or, you can nurse him more often. Some babies have a very fast metabolism and will utilize what they eat better than others. Check with your baby’s doctor, if he isn’t concerned, don’t fret. My baby went from being in the 35% tile to the 5% tile, but he is happy and healthy, and even rather chubby…haha! You can also watch what you eat. It sounds as though you are pretty healthy, but watch your sugar intake and the empty calories you might be eating. If YOU don’t get enough protine, etc, your baby won’t either. Good luck!

just keep nursing and pumping inbetween if you can, then gradually try to take him off the formula. good luck. x

My son dropped a few ounces here and there, and he was fine. Then he had his growth spurts to where he would eat eat eat! Then the next day he seemed as though he did not want to eat. Dont worry about the percentile either. My son was all over those charts. The ped said dont worry, so i stopped worrying. Talk to your ped. if its a bothersome!
