On a scale of 1-10, how painful is giving birth?
If you would like could you include if you gave birth natural, water birth etc..
and also only if you want, how big was your baby?
thank you, I am just a 16 year old terrified of giving birth in my FUTURE, not anytime soon ![]()
My brother was 10lbs 5o and I was 9lbs 2o
I feel bad for my mom. But she said I didn’t hurt, but my brother was EXTREMELY painful.

Many women have this fear….you are not alone! I had two births – totally naturally. I also have attended a number of births both natural and with medication (i.e. epidural or demerol) and one home water birth. All were different and all were successful – because the only outcome that matters is a healthy mom and a healthy baby. I can only tell you what it felt like from my own perspective: birth is very intense. Your body basically takes over and begins working on it’s own whether or not you want it to or are ready for it – it’s totally beyond your control. The sooner you realize that it’s a natural process that your body was made for, the sooner you can give up, let go, and relax and THAT is the key to making it less painful. Labor is different for everyone. Some feel contractions that build slowly like a wave and then subside, primarily in their abdomen….kind of like cramps. Some feel a similar pain in their lower back. I even knew a woman who felt it in her thighs! Like I said, I went totally natural and would gladly do it again. It was an incredible experience to feel every part of the process – especially my baby crowning and coming out. Did it hurt? Yes. Was it uncomfortable? Absolutely. But guess what? So is motherhood! There are lots of times I want to take the easy way out as a mom and I can’t, because it’s not what’s best for my children. There are plenty of times I want to let someone else handle the hard stuff but I don’t. Labor is a lot like that. Labor prepares you for being a mom. All I can tell you is I’d do the labor again in a heart beat. I used to faint at the sight of a needle. My first labor was 18 hours and I pushed for 2 1/2. He was 6 lbs 12 oz. My second was a much shorter labor – basically about 4 hours from the time I got to the hospital. I only pushed about 20 minutes. He was 8 lbs 2 oz. I hope that helps you and I hope you will get past your fear and see this as something incredible and beautiful and amazing – because it truly is! Don’t cheat yourself out of of it. Good luck.
Wrong scale! I had 2 c-sections and 4 natural births. My children ranged from 6 lbs 8oz -9lbs 2oz.
like a 25 according to my wife

I’m a guy
On a scale of 1 – 10 giving birth is probably about a 4,528.
But, once you hold your precious tiny baby in your arms….it’s all worth it.
12…… and both were within 8 pound range.
Natural…..10
with epidural….4, ..postpartum healing…..8
15
vaginal birth, had an epideral and i would say it was about a 8 only cuz i was pushing for like 4 hrs
I’m guessing not very painful if you get the right anesthesia. A pregnant teenager at my school had her baby and she said she didn’t feel a thing.
On a scale of 1-10 giving birth is a 100. I gave birth naturally with no epidural or anything. My daughter weighed 7 lbs. 8oz. and was 21 in. long. I though i was going to die but it was all worth it in the end. I love her more than anything in the world.
2………………………….thousand
I’m just kidding I have no clue!
I can tell from numerous sources that water births hurt less, and standing up or squatting also helps reduce pain.
hope your future experience is pleasant!
10 i had two babies one was 6 pounds 2 ounces and the other was 5 lbs 14 ounces the drugs worked believe me felt nothing after epidural
On a scale of 1-10 my first birth was w/out drugs (not by choice, baby came too fast) and I’d say it was a 15 (ouch). My daughter was 8’5.
My second was induced and I didn’t have drugs (baby came too fast as well) and on a scale of 1-10 I’d say a 22 (induced contractions are very intense). Baby was 8’6.
My third was induced with drugs and I’d say on a scale of one to ten a 2 – I barely felt anything when they gave me the epidural and everything was smooth sailing from there. Baby was 7’9.
On a scale of 1-10 I would say 15! I gave birth naturally and my son was 8lbs 1oz. It hurts like hell but when you hold that beautiful baby in your arms it is all worth it in the end.
I will give it a 12. I gave birth naturally and without medication. But even with all that pain I would have done it the same way again if I didn’t need a c-section. My son was 8 pounds and 6 ounces. Having a child is definitely not something to take lightly. Best wishes.
to me a scale from 1-10 i would choose 6…. it wasnt so bad just felt like a really really really bad CRAMP to me… i gave birth naturally it was a family thing that i have no choice of… my baby was 6lb 2 oz…
I had a vaginal delivery, with an epidural. The pain was only about a 5, but the pressure was almost unbearable (the baby was 9lbs 10oz). The back labor I had before getting the epidural, though, was probably a 9.9.
well its good to know you wont be doing that anytime soon! on a scale of 1-10 i would have to say a 10! i went through labor pains for about an hour before i had an epidural. the needle that that keep in your back to feed the epidural into your body fell out of mine so of course more pain came from it wearing off. i ended up having to have a c-section. and let me tell you the pain afterwards for healing was far worse than anything i ever experienced. i had to get help getting in and out of bed. just standing to take a shower hurt. and i dont know about you other ladies out there but that first bowel movement i had was HELL! i felt like i was having another baby! it took me a little more than 2 weeks to get back to my normal self. and that was just functionable. i was still sore. however now that i look back at it, it was all worth it…bowel movement and all! :d my son was 8pds. 13.5 oz. and was 19.5 in.
i had a normal vaginal delivery WITH an epideural. i think without one it would have been an 11 not any less. labor was about an 8 and my daughter would not come out, she wanted to stay with mommy forever, so they moved me to the operating room for a c-section, gave me more medicine and right as that happend i pushed one more time and she was born. she wanted to come naturally and that was pain free.
its mostly just hard to push
Oh you can’t even begin to explain the pain. It is different though. Knowing your bringing a life into this world makes it bearable. I had my first daughter all natural. That was the most pain you could ever imagine. 9lbs 3 oz. Worth every scream. My second daughter was with a epidural. So much better. 9lbs 7 oz. The epidural made it so that I could enjoy bringing my daughter into this world.
There is no scale to tell you the amount of pain that can come with giving birth. Don’t go natural or water birth. Get an epidural and push your little self to no end. Water birth is pointless, it just takes away a little bit of pain not much. Natural will kill you because you are still a kid yourself. Better yet go natural that way you will never want to do it again. Don’t be terrified, it is not that bad. Contractions are the worst that you have to worry about. Pushing isn’t bad if you have an epidural. Just do your breathing with contractions and it will help out so much.
lol 12.5
I would give it at 9…I must say that it was the most painful experience physically I have ever had. I gave it a 9, b/c I got the epidural at 8cms…so if I wasn’t receiving the pain relief of an epidural during pushing, I would say that would probably hurt more than the contractions! But it is a pain that you do totally forget about once your baby is born. My little one was 6lbs 3 oz. Even though it was painful, you get the BEST gift from it…every time the pain got worse, I tried to think that I was one contraction closer to my baby!! I really can’t wait to be pregnant again and have another baby!
, don’t worry about the labor, it is inevitable….just think about meeting your child!
When the time is right for you (many years from now
Natural, 8lb4oz. Imagine having a stomach flu and no access to a bathroom. That’s the closest comparison I can think of.
150 I had a natural birth no drugs at all i was in labor for 7 1/2 hours my son was tiny though only 5lbs 14oz.. But like everyone else has said once you hold your baby in your arms you forget about what you just went through and it is so worth it knowing that you just brought a little life into the world
All natural.. first was 5 pounds 4 ounces second was 8 pounds third was 7 pounds 5 ounces fourth was 7 pounds 6 ounces… Was painful but not bad enough for drugs I would say it was about a 6..
The pain is way past your scale. The pain blows up the scale. It’s indescribably to me. but hey I’ve done it 3 times and I’m gonna do it again in Sept. I’ve had natural birth with all of mt kids. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
1st son- 6lbs,9ounces
2nd son- 7lbs even
3rd daughter- 6lbs, 7ounces
Believe me all the pain is so well worth it.
I have a hard time understanding why a 16 year old is concerned about the pain associated with giving birth. Yes it hurts A lot! The good news is the pain associated with giving birth is temporary.
On a scale of 1 to 10 giving birth is a 10 but raising the child for the next 18 years is 20 (at least) LOL!
I was in labor with my son for 32 hours. (OUCH) then had an emergency c-section.
I had my daughter by c- section
My son was 9lbs 5oz
My daughter was 7lbs 10oz.
Take your time on having kids. Live your life first.
don’t let everyone scare you! I have three children and I had an epidural with all three. There are many different ways to minimize the pain. It also differs from person to person do the their pain tolerance. You will be amazed at how much you can take! Your adrenaline will kick in and some of the pain will subside. Every woman’s labor is different . My mom had me worried telling me how bad her labor pains were. My labor was just like having a really bad menstrual cycle. Don’t worry yourself about something that is far in the future! take a pole a tooth ache is worse!
Okay so don’t worry about it, giving birth should not cross your mind at this point…..on a scale of 1-10, it’s a 20……
A big fat 0!!
Giving birth didnt hurt for me it was the contractions that i couldnt handle. I had pethidine and gas, didnt tear and bub was 3.36kg(7lb 7oz).
Dont worry about the pain, its the length of labour that i was worried about. A friend was in labour for 18hr, another for 25hrs so i went in expecting something like that and couldnt believe my luck when it turned out to be 3hrs.
Sex the first few times after the birth hurts more(well for me anyway), it varies alot with each person
well…
1st pregnancy – natural – had an epidural (but don’t really think it had the right effect considering I could still feel the pain from the contractions) – he was 6 pounds 11.9 ounces – and I would give that one an 8
and…
2nd pregnancy – c- section – didn’t feel a thing – she was early and only weighed 4 pounds 5.9 ounces – and the actual birth was only like a 1 with the recovery being about a 3 or 4…
pregnant with twin girls now and am due to be induced on Friday…
