Weight loss and running?

Lately I have been running and losing a good amount of weight, but the only problem is that I lose it then gain it back by barely eating that much food to gain it back.
I step on the scale before and it says about 176 lbs., but after I run 4.5 miles it says I am now 170 to 173 lbs. I don’t believe that is possible. If I am unsure about the weight I will step on it about a minute later, but it says the same thing or plus or minus .5 lbs. I know that since I am using a digital scale, but it must be close. If you lose 3 to 5 lbs. that must be based on water weight, correct. So how do I lose so much weight when it should say I lost about .1 to .2 lbs.

Fluid loss – you are correct that that’s where most of the weight is going. The recommended procedure is to weigh yourself before and after exercise and drink 20 – 24 fl. oz. of water or a sports drink for every lb. lost. There are also carbohydrate needs, within 15 mins, and protein needs, within two hours. Read info in SportsMedicine link below for more complete details about after execercise nutritional needs. I’ll also add a pre-exercise nutrition link below that.
