Worried about size of baby`s tummy on 20 week scan?

Hi all,
I am 28 weeks pregnant and a bit concerned. In the last week I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and the doctor is looking to use Insulin therapy.
When I looked at my maternity notes I noticed that the 20 week scan that I had done before the diabetes was found showed the baby to have a almost off the scale abdominal size. Is this normal for babies at 20 week scans or is it sign that the baby has had too much sugar from me from all those weeks ago?
All the other measuremets were ok and the dates are 110% correct.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks all.

Hon, as the others are saying, you need to bring this up with your doctor. Your medical records are viewable by you at any time. In fact, when I go to my appointments and wait for the doc, I ask to see my folder. They legally have to give it to you. I read through it and ask questions when the doctor comes in the room. He used to be surprised but then learned to just be honest with me from the get go. Some answers on here may scare you, help you feel better etc, but they probably are just going to make you ask more questions which is why you should start and finish this conversation with your OB. Try to get an appointment asap to discuss your file, but know in the meantime, if the docs thought it was really bad they would contact you right away after the ultrasound.

btw, I had undiagnosed diabetes and my daughter was induced a month early. She was born 9lbs 5 ozs (huge for that age). She is a happy healthy normal size 6 yr old now.

never heard of that one before, I would save this question for your doctor, he or she will know better than any of us.

This really is a question for your doctors. If the worry was the effects of diabetes the child would be large in general- long, wide, measuring big all over. A distended stomach would be worry-some to me.. perhaps the sign of an enlarged organ? Did they find any particular organ to be large as well?

Well first of all, you are basing your worry on your interpretation of the doctor’s notes. There is a great chance you misread them or misunderstood what was written. Ask your doctor.
